Phillip Phillips’ Song ‘Home’ Scores ‘American Idol’ Record

American Idolwinner Phillip Phillips got his post-TV career off to a strong start, as his new song “Home” debuted on the Digital Songs chart this week at the number two slot with 278,000 downloads sold according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The Hollywood Reporter states that the song’s debut marks the second-best digital sales week ever for any “Idol” contestant, bested only by Kelly Clarkson’s 2009 song “My Life Would Suck Without You.” In addition, “Home” scored the biggest sales week for any Idol winner’s post-TV debut single since SoundScan began tracking downloads in 2003 and now supplants David Cook’s “The Time Of My Life,” for the record.

His song is blazing another music chart as well. “Home” also became the first “American Idol” coronation single to enter the Billboard Hot 100 in the Top 10 in four years, ranking at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
